Tibetan scholarship arranges Indian Buddhist philosophy into four schools of ascending subtlety, and a genre of literature, the grub mtha’, lays them out side by side so that a student can see what each asserts about the mind, the world and the person. Around them stand the Tibetan traditions themselves, Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, Gelug and Jonang, each with its own account.
The pages here will present the four schools and the Tibetan traditions as the tradition presents them, without adjudicating between them.
