Pramāṇa, valid cognition: the study of what knowledge is and how it is had. The tradition holds that there are exactly two means, perception and inference, and Dharmakīrti’s seven treatises work out what each can and cannot establish. In Tibet the Pramāṇavārttika became the central text of the monastic curriculum, and Sakya Pandita’s Treasury of Reasoning the first great native treatment.
The pages here will introduce the Indian sources, the Tibetan commentaries, and the questions they turn on.
