The Three Humours

nyes pa gsum

Wind, bile and phlegm: the three principles that govern the body, their seats and functions, and health as their balance.

This page is a placeholder. It exists so that the structure does; the text will follow, and will be checked by a teacher of the field before it is called finished.

Wind, rlung, governs movement, breath, thought and the nervous system. Bile, mkhris pa, governs heat, digestion and sight. Phlegm, bad kan, governs structure, fluid and stability. Each has its seat in the body, its five subdivisions and its own character, and a person’s constitution is a particular blend of the three. Illness is their excess, deficiency or disturbance; treatment restores the balance.

The pages here will present each humour, the constitutions, and how diet and season move them.
