Cham is danced by monks in masks and heavy brocade to the monastic orchestra, at the great festivals, in a courtyard ringed by the whole community. Each dance is a ritual with a meaning, each mask a figure with a name, and the choreography is fixed and taught by the dance master. The pages here will present the principal dances, the masks, and the calendar of the festivals.
