A performance of Ache Lhamo lasts a day and is held in the open, on a flat ground with the audience on all sides. It opens with the hunters in their blue masks, continues with the story sung and chanted by the players and carried between songs by a narrator, and closes with a blessing. The eight classical plays are known to everyone; the troupes are known by their villages; and the great gathering is the Shoton festival in Lhasa each summer.
